Be ready, be thinking of what you will do with the ball if it is hit to you. Always throw ahead of the runners (throw to the bag they are running to). If the base runner is almost there, hold onto the ball, run it into the pitcher as soon as you can. Help each other out, always be thinking backup.
First Base
Be aggressive, charge balls hit down the first base line, the second baseman will cover first
On balls hit to other fielder, run back to bag, keep one foot on the white part make a good target and stretch for the ball without lifting the foot on the base. If the ball is too far off target, knock it down to prevent runners from advancing. Get to balls that get past you as fast as you can and run back to the pitchers mound with it until the runners stop.
Second base
Charge all ground balls to your side of the field, make good throws. Cover first base on balls hit to the first baseman, cover second base on balls hit to the third base side. Make a good target. On balls hit to outfield, run to the grass and make a good target for a relay. Get the ball back to the catcher or pitcher.
Shortstop
Charge all ground balls to your side of the field, make good throws. Cover third base on balls hit to the third baseman, cover second base on balls hit to the first base side. Make a good target. On balls hit to outfield, run to the grass and make a good target for a relay. Get the ball back to the catcher or pitcher.
Third Base
Be aggressive, charge balls hit down the third base line, the shortstop will cover first
On balls hit to other fielder, run back to bag, keep one foot on the white part make a good target. If the ball is too far off target, knock it down to prevent runners from advancing. Get to balls that get past you as fast as you can and run back to third base with it until the runners stop.
Right Field
On ground balls in infield, run toward first base in case there is an over throw. On long balls, make a good throw to the cut off person, otherwise throw the ball into second base.
Center Field
On ground balls in infield, run toward second base incase there is an over throw. On long balls, make a good throw to the cut off person, otherwise throw the ball into second base. Backup all the other outfielders, you are in charge of the outfield.
Left Field
On ground balls in infield, run toward third base incase there is an over throw. On long balls, make a good throw to the cut off person, otherwise throw the ball into third or second base.
Short Field
On ground balls in infield, run toward second base incase there is an over throw. On long balls, make a good throw to the cut off person, otherwise throw the ball into second or third base.
