ABOUT THE JUNIOR DIVISION

 
The Junior Division was established to allow Fourth and Fifth graders an opportunity to play

in competitive game situations with emphasis on skill development, team play and

sportsmanship with winning, although pursued, remaining a secondary  focus.

 

 


All games shall be played at Alvirne High School.  For a map of fields, please go to the Map link on our home page.

JUNIOR DIVISION 
 
* New players to the division will be assigned to a team through a tryout process. All girls who register will be assigned to a team.
* Returning Fifth graders will be reassigned to their previous year team, unless otherwise requested.
*   All teams will practice in the month of April with no more than two (2) activities per week. Weekly practices will be scheduled during regular season if fields are available.
*  Each team will play ten (10) regular season games.  Each team will play every team at least once.

*  This Division does select players for an "All Star" game.

*  Each team will be eligible to play in the playoffs, with a double loss elimination.

 


Rules of Play:
 
A.            A Junior Division game will consist of six (6) innings.

                            A called game shall be regulation if 4 or more innings have been completed. See Bylaws for details.
B.            Pitching distance from front of Pitcher's rubber to point of home plate is 35 feet.
C.            Distance between bases shall be 60 feet.
D.            There shall be no intentional walks.
E.             Visors and Shirts are provided by the League and shall be properly worn (shirts tucked in) at all times.

F.             Team Members are allowed (and encouraged) to CHEER for their team only.  Remarks shall not be directed to any opposing player. 

G.            There is a six (6) run maximum per inning, regardless of outs.

H.            NO JEWELRY can be worn during game (excluding studs).

I.              All Playoff games must be played to completion, regardless of time.

J.            A third strike will result in the batter being called "out", whether caught by the pitcher or not.

K.           Pitchers are allowed a three (3) foot arc from point of release.

L.           No individual may pitch more than three (3) innings of "windmill" style pitching and no more than four (4) innings  

              of  "windmill" style pitching are allowed per game.

M.        The Junior Division uses 11" balls.

N.         All bats must be ASA approved.

O.         All helmets must have faceguards and chin straps.

If there is no cancellation message, then the game will be played.
